BAKU
Baku is the hub of a flourishing oil and gas industry. Zoroastrians (fire worshippers) consider Baku as their sacred place, as flames burst through its oil-rich land. Baku is observed as a rich city because most of the wealth comes from oil. Most of the people are Shia Muslim. This city is also known as the "city of wind" which you will feel when you will turn up here.

Azerbaijan is also known for its carpets.
"In Azerbaijan, one is born on carpets and when he dies, his body lies on a carpet in his grave."
These carpets are made from the hair of camel and sheep, as it provides comfort and prevents people from dusty soil and snakes as snakes are of great dread of camel's hair, and that's why the men kept their carpet with them on a long journey.

House of Government


  • It is an 11-story building that houses the state ministries of Azerbaijan. It was designed for 5500 people.
  • It was initially constructed by the Soviet government under the leadership of Lenin. His sculpture stood where presently the flag of Azerbaijan stands.

Dəniz Mall

  • Located on the Caspian Sea and so is called Caspian Waterfront Mall
  • It incorporates 66 brands like Starbucks, Nike, Swarovski, Pandora, Paul, Go Sport, Alma Store, LVIV Handmade Chocolate, CinemaPlus.
  • Its architecture is so unique. A ‘flame’ tower is the centerpiece of eight star-shaped wings inspired by Azerbaijan’s national emblem.

Dənizkənarı Milli Park


  • DÉ™nizkÉ™narı Milli Park, National Park is a boardwalk that goes side by side to Baku’s seafront, and therefore it's called Seaside National Park.
  • It is the oldest park and a valuable monument of garden-park art in Azerbaijan.
  • The things to do are- seawall, hiking, enjoying socio-cultural events.

Old City (Baku)



Old city
  • It became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
  • There are 32 historical sites out of which 4 are conserved by UNESCO World Heritage.
  • Here you will feel like you are roaming in history, you will find many historical monuments, colourful carpets, and sovereign shops. The old city has mingled the historical and modern culture as you will find many restaurants beside the historical monuments.
  • Many Azerbaijani movies were shot at Old City.
  • There is a tunnel under the Vahid Park paved with white sawn stone.
  • If you wanna take a bird eyes view that maiden tower is the best place for you. You must watch the sunset from Maiden Tower. 
Maiden tower
  • The defense tower is the place where the king of Azerbaijan used to hide. When you ascend the stairs you will find many windows from where the military army used to keep eye on the enemy.
  • This is a museum also where you will see many authentic pieces which say much about history.
  • This city is also known as a walled city. Initially, dozens of cannons were set on its walls for protection purposes. During the globalization period, Baku went on to extend beyond the city walls, and new neighborhoods emerged. Thus the terms Inner City and Outer City came into use.
Flame Towers

  • Flame Towers are a trio of high-rise buildings in Azerbaijan.
  • These towers were made to emulate Azerbaijan’s nickname as the “land of fire".
  • The design comprises three towers, each containing a diverse function. The tallest tower contains dwelling units, a commercial office slot occupies the second, and a hotel uses the third. 
  • The buildings propose the freedom for visitors to move through the shopping mall and walk from one tower to the other or wander the top of the landscaped podium.

Mosque of the Martyrs

  • Mosque of Martyrs is a Turkish Mosque, built in honor of the fallen heroes who died defending Azerbaijan. It is a place of worship for Sunni Muslims.

Conclusion

Thus, it is concluded that Azerbaijan is a picturesque place, not only rich in natural resources but also its architecture. The government has also cherished its history. You can also visit Shirvanshah palace where you will find many artifacts of the 19th century. You should also drink a cup of tea here which is without milk and with lemon.
I chose this place because I feel that some of the viewers have listened to the name of this country in sports, so I wanted to give insights into this country. Not only Baku, but there are two more places, Ganja and Sheki, where architecture is more amazing, but we will talk about them in some other post.
